One of my favorite places to go camping is Coolidge State
Park in Plymouth, Vermont. Not only are the lean-to sites isolated from one another,
the sites are very beautiful. Blueberry and Sapling are the two most isolated sites; they
are halfway down the mountian from the rest of the campground, but for a view Ash, Aspen
and Boxelder can't be beat. I haven't been fortunate enough to actually stay at one
of those sites - reservations are best made while the snow is fresh; these sites are hard
to get.
This picture was taken right from our camp at
Blueberry. I was experimenting with longer exposure times in an
attempt to get highly saturated colors. I'm pleased with the
results. That day, I had Kodak Gold 100 loaded in my Nikon N70 and was using the standard Nikkor
35-80mm f/4-5.6D AF zoom that seemed to come as part of every Nikon
consumer kit. The rest of the exposure information went unrecorded -
hey, I was on vacation!
Looking off to the left of the site, we were greeted with
this lovely view. I think this image suffers from a lack of depth; perhaps I should have
stopped the lens down one or two more stops. I particularly liked the way the sunlight was
streaming through the trees, giving each leaf it's own golden glow. Actually, because of
that, I have far too many pictures of trees that aren't quite good enough; somehow the
camera doesn't seem to fully capture what my eyes do. Either that, or I'm not using the
camera properly. If you have any good tips, pass them along!
Here we are at Kent Pond in Killington, Vt. If you're willing
to walk through a little bit of muck you'll find a cold, clear stream spilling into a
little pool where there just might be a trout waiting for you. This scan doesn't do the
photo justice; the original is much more vibrant (I should either learn how to scan, or
get a better scanner!).
One
of our favorite shots, Lisa took this one near her old stomping grounds at Lewin Pond in
Swansea, Massachusetts. Lewin Pond is, as you can see, quite colorful in the fall. As with
all of her shots, the exposure was determined manually.
Another one of Lisa's; her sharp eye for the artistic captured this image at Sand Beach, in
Acadia National Park in Maine.
